How to Find the Perfect COO

How to Find the Perfect COO

As the visionary of your business, there are three key things you need to square away before you can find the perfect COO.

Think of your COO as the operational partner who’ll run your business with you. So, you can’t just pick a face from the operational management crowd and call it a day.

To find the perfect match for you and your business, you need to do these first:

How to find the perfect COO

#1. Know Your Superpower

This is about identifying what you’re genuinely exceptional at in your business. So, imagine you could only do three things in the office every day. What would those things be? What comes naturally to you? What tasks do you absolutely love, to the point where you’d never want to hand them off to someone else, no matter how successful your business becomes?

That would be your superpower.

So, hiring a COO who’s also good at those things would only create redundancy. You then need someone who complements you, not someone who’s also got your strengths nailed down.

#2. Understand What Kind of Help You Need

If you could wave a magic wand to bring in someone to help you in business right now, what kind of person would that be? What traits and skills would they bring to the table? And what kind of help would you most need from them?

Picture that person in your mind. Because that’s who you should be looking for when hiring your COO.

#3. Know Where You’re Headed

Being the visionary, by now, you should be crystal clear on where you’re headed. What’s the grand vision for your business? What’s your North Star? What’s the destination you want your COO to help you get to?

So, once you have a COO on board, it will be vital for you to retain the big-picture direction. That is, you both should work together towards your vision.

See, finding the perfect COO is all about knowing your strengths, envisioning your ideal partner, and staying true to your overarching direction.

So, take this as your friendly nudge to reflect on these three keys. These might just be the catalyst for a fantastic partnership that’ll propel your business to new heights.
