Are you making these 3 content marketing mistakes?

Would you believe that content marketing is very new? It’s actually become relevant only in the past decade and a half. Before that, traditional marketing was king.

Are you making these 3 content marketing mistakes?

And it’s precisely because of this fact that many entrepreneurs struggle with content marketing.

So, allow me to share three mistakes to look out for when creating content:

  1. Making it Difficult for Yourself

This is a mistake I see happen all the time. People who hate writing start producing written content, and then they give up a few months on.

They say they can’t do it because it’s just too hard for them. But you can make content creation easy for you. If you’re more comfortable with speaking, record spoken content, then, you can convert it into writing.

But if you’re really averse to writing, then hire a writer. It’s not that expensive, anyway. And the return on your investment far outweighs the cost.

  1. Being Selfish

You have to think of your market when making content, not yourself. If you can’t come up with ideas for your content, talk with your clients or ask prospects directly.

Or if you want to do it indirectly, post a poll on Facebook—it’s free. The reality is, creating content is easy if you’re willing to listen to others.

  1. Constantly Pitching

Here’s the thing, traditional marketing and hard selling are no longer effective. You can pitch aggressively to the few who are already wanting to buy from you. But for everyone else, they should be getting content, not aggressive pitching from you.

Remember, building a relationship with the prospect is the goal of content marketing. Because when they already know, like, and trust you, it becomes easier to sell to prospects.

That’s why instead of pitching all the time, focus on providing value and building trust with your audience. Share information, insights, and stories that they'll find useful or interesting.

If you can avoid these three mistakes, you’ll be on the right track to scaling your business with content marketing.
