Critical Non-Essentials or CNE’s are tasks that are not essential to the service or product you provide, but they are critical as they help your customers asses the quality of the service or product you’re offering prior to purchase.

An example of a CNE is the little chocolates you find on your pillow in a fancy hotel, it is not essential to the product or service but it makes you re-asses the quality of what you are paying for.

In a nutshell, they are things external to the product or service but add a perceived value and leave a lasting impression. They make people feel comfortable paying a premium for the service they are delivered.
